Training Camp Barcelona - Other Activities

You will not be engaged in training activities all the time and there is a whole host of other activities on offer in the city

City of Barcelona
Situated in Catalunya, Barcelona is Spain's second largest city, after Madrid, and has a population of over 1.6 million, most of whom speak either Catalan or Castellano (Spanish). It has so much to offer by way of sporting and cultural interests.

A visit to the Nou Camp Stadium, home of Barcelona FC, is definitely worth the trip. For a small entrance fee, you can enter the stadium, which is awesome even without 92,000 fervent Catalans inside it, and the adjacent museum and trophy room is awash with hundreds of trophies won by the famous club over the years.

The other major sporting arena in the city is the Olympic Stadium in Montjuïc Park, which was used for the 1992 Olympics Games. The old Barcelona Formula One track, which hosted the Spanish Grand Prix four times up to 1975, as also in Montjuïc Park.

The Metro system in Barcelona is the best way to get around but a reminder - like in all major cities, beware of pickpockets on the Metro and other congested areas in the city.

For culture lovers, Barcelona is full of wonderful architecture much if which is in the style of local architect Antoni Gaudí. Probably his best known work is the Church of the Sacred Family (Sagrada Familia). An amazing piece of work, it was started in 1882 and is still not completed but is visited by millions of people each year. It will probably never be completed because it will no doubt lose its tourist appeal if it is! Another of Gaudí's major works is Park Güell, where you will see some amazing architecture the likes of which you will not see anywhere else in the world.

Barcelona is famous for its many bars, restaurants and cafés, many of whch are situated on the famous Ramblas. The port area is another popular destination for diners and drinkers alike, and from here you can catch the cable car up to Montjuïc Park.

For those of you who want to go shopping there are plenty of shops alongside the Ramblas, and at the top of the Ramblas is the Plaça de Catalunya where four major roads all converge on one roundabout, around which are located some of the biggest shops and stores in the city.
